The representation of women in action movies
To what extent have representations of women in action movies become less stereotypical?
(The question needs a bit of a historical dimension).
Your chosen texts (Tomb Raider, Bond – which one? – Pirates of the Caribbean) are good – have you got copies of them all?
You need to read, initially, Ch 2 and 3 of Media, Gender and Identity, then you need to look at some of the books by Yvonne Tasker – eg Spectacular Bodies (quite heavy going but v important).
What will your primary research be? Perhaps you could look at whether contemporary women audiences WANT their female representations to be main protagonists in action movies, and whether they want them to be still objectified/objects of male sexual desire (Lara Croft) or not (Alien).
